Raw materials, organic and delicate forms, Agnieszka Owsiany’s art is beautifully mastered.

Based in Poland, Agnieszka Owsiany, an artist and architect, creates worlds imbued with softness, elegance and timelessness. Her works are finely woven canvases of rare delicacy, whose curves and colours echo nature and inspire a sense of calm and serenity.

At Stone & Wood, we experienced a true coup de cœur for her work and are delighted to introduce you to her inspirations and creations through the interview she kindly shared with us.

Could you introduce yourself in a few words?

“As a trained architect, I have been running a studio in Poznań, Poland, since 2018. Alongside my work as an architect, I discovered the traditional technique of making rugs using a crochet needle. After months of self-learning and experimenting with different materials, I developed my own way of using this tool to create a variety of textile objects.

My creative approach is deeply rooted in nature. I design soft, organic forms intended to soothe the viewer and evoke the sense of well-being that nature provides. The materials I use are unprocessed and come mainly from local sources, small artisans, and producers.”

How would you describe your style as an artist and interior architect?

“I focus a lot on materials, especially in my textiles. My creative universe is made up of neutral tones and soft forms. I like to work with the natural colours of the materials, which makes my creations feel more connected to nature. I aim to highlight its beauty rather than interfere with it.

Recently, I’ve been exploring the boundaries between textile and sculpture, resulting in a series of reliefs that play with different surfaces and shadows.”

What are your inspirations and motivations?

“I often reflect on periods before modern design, when the quality of objects and craftsmanship were paramount. Created pieces had to be durable, both in terms of materials and design.

I also draw inspiration from 20th-century sculptors and ceramists, admiring their combination of raw materials with simple yet extraordinary forms, avant-garde and timeless at the same time.

In recent years, I’ve noticed a strong movement in the creative world, with many artists and designers working with their own hands, experimenting with materials, techniques, and bold concepts. Seeing this and being part of it is extremely motivating.”

What does “home” mean to you? How would you describe the interior of your own living space?

“‘Home’ is a safe place, and it can be interpreted in many ways. On one hand, it’s my private space where I can retreat and choose whether or not to connect with the outside world, depending on my mood. On the other hand, it’s a place I love to see alive, with friends, their children, and their dogs, while cooking and sharing moments together.

As for my interior, I would describe myself as a minimalist collector. I love vintage pieces and enjoy visiting flea markets. Most of my furniture and objects are second-hand or bought during my travels. These items are unique and carefully chosen, unlike stacks of mass-collected pieces.

I think my environment follows the same principles as my art. I appreciate natural materials and the patina they develop over time. I like for each item in a space to feel precious—not necessarily in monetary value, but in the story it carries.”
